Consolidate Student Loans

PDF Print E-mail

With the passing of the Student Loans Act, which was signed into law in May, more than 100 lenders and counting have stopped offering federal consolidation loans, including nine of the top 10 consolidators. The main reasons behind this are due to the credit crunch and the bill, which limits the profit margin for these student loan consolidation companies.

There are still a few options out there for consolidating your student loans. The best time to consolidate this year is between July 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009 as interest rates will be virtually cut in half. It's a great time to consolidate your student loans, as these rates will be the 4th lowest in the programs 15 year history.
