How to save money in College

PDF Print E-mail

Update: Check out our more recent article Saving Money: 50 Tips for College Students.

If you are in college, you are usually on a tight budget. Here are some of the best ways to save money on campus.

  1. Stick to the typical college diet

  2. Don't buy new textbooks, instead use other cheaper methods.

  3. Don't Drive - With everything you need within walking distance, there is no need to waste gas or lose that precious parking spot.

  4. Don't use credit cards

  5. Utilize Free Internet - Either from your school or other wireless connections in the area.

  6. Manage Cell Phone minutes - go easy on your peak minutes to keep that bill lower. Maybe even start using cheaper VoIP services.

  7. Get scholarships to pay for tuition. The more college scholarships you get, the less you'll have to spend.

  8. Take the maximum allowed credits per quarter and get most out of your tuition.

  9. Student Discounts - Shop at stores and restaurants that give a student discount w/student ID.

  10. Use school resources - Colleges have video equipment, computers, books, etc for your use.
