The World Series of Beer Pong begins today in Las Vegas. The tournament, in its 4th year, runs January 1-5 at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with a $50,000 grand prize going to the winning team. The event is the largest, longest-running beer pong tournament in the world (well technically it should be called Beirut). Last years event drew nearly 600 participants, with estimated numbers of this year's event being 800+. Teams entered the tournament buy either buying-in and registering at bpong.com prior to December 13, 2008, or won their way into the event by competing in an official Satellite Tournament. Players who bought-in to the tournament had to fork over $500+, which included a 4-night stay at the Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. The tournament runs for 3 days, with the first 2 days being preliminary rounds for seeding purposes. Each team will play 12 games of beer pong over these two days. Finals will take place on the third day of the event with the highest ranked 128 teams being entered into a bracket. In the 1st round of finals, the lowest ranked 32 teams out of the 128 will play against teams ranked 65-96. In the 2nd round of finals, the winning teams from round 1 will face off against teams 33-64. The winning teams from round 2 will be combined with the top 32 teams and entered into a 64-team double elimination bracket. ![]() Last years winning team: Chauffeuring the Fat Kid For game play, each side starts with 10 cups: 6 partially filled with beer and 4 partially filled with water. Most of the participants arrived on new years, many enjoying the massive celebration that takes place on the strip every year. |
