Majoring in Business

PDF Print E-mail

Business is one of the most popular majors among College students and carries with it many advantages. A major in business opens a variety of opportunities in this fast paced world we live in. One who is considering a business major should have a strong desire to learn more about what it takes to run or operate in an established business firm and should be motivated to succeed in an ever changing environment.

If you are looking to become a CEO, an Executive, or just about any position that is held within a Corporation, a business degree would be a good start for you. A business major will provide you with a real-life business background and will implant the foundations in the liberal arts as well as enhance your interpersonal skills, analytical abilities, and increase your understanding of business ethics. These skills are of high regard by many employers and successfully mastering them could net you a well paying job with an established firm.

If running your own company is more your style, then a Business degree might still be for you. As a business major you will have the management and leadership skills that will give you a competitive edge over others starting their own business without any previous knowledge and will make the whole process of getting up and running a lot simpler. While all these skills and merits all sounds great, no College or Education facility will ever guarantee your business will be successful simply because you graduate. The truth is that most small-business owners will fail. While a business degree will increase your chances of being successful, nothing in this life is guaranteed. The skills you earn in college try to prepare you for the real world that lies ahead but cannot replace hands on training and expertise. If you are really sure owning a business is right for you, try working a part-time job during college to increase your hands on experience and further increase your chances for start-up success.

If none of these two possibilities outlined above intrigue you, consider a business major as a compliment to your future career. Graduating with a business degree will allow you to pursue a variety of careers in the fields of accounting, law, teaching, and more. Simply put, if you have strong communication, leadership, and management skills, a business degree will allow you to develop those skills to their full potential giving you abilities to do just about anything with your life.

As a Business Major, your choices will be almost limitless after you graduate. From becoming a successful executive to running your own business, a business degree will allow you to choose from a wide selection of jobs and will instantly make you a very valuable commodity to corporations seeking new talent. You will also increase your chances of starting a successful business by further enhancing your skills in communication, leadership, and management.
