Learn Martini Mixing...In College?

Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar Goodman, plans to teach martini mixing to college students.

Goodman will become a Community College of Southern Nevada adjunct professor in February to teach a two-hour, noncredit class on mixing what he calls "the perfect martini".Martini

The unorthodox mayor, who also has been a defense attorney for some notorious mob bosses, is a spokesman for Bombay Sapphire Gin, receiving a $100,000 a year salary.

"I'll do anything to further the educational opportunities in the valley," Goodman says. The "Valley" referring to Las Vegas which is home to some other lesser known college majors including Beverage Management, Casino Management and Hospitality Management.

The class, titled "Martinis With the Mayor," is part of the college's inaugural Local Celebrity Forum.

Goodman will be compensated based on how many students sign up for the one-class session.

Gin has been a recurring theme for Goodman since he was elected in 1999.

He stirred controversy last year when he described drinking as one of his hobbies and told a class of fourth-graders that if stranded on a desert island and he could only bring one item, he would choose a bottle of gin.

It's acts such as this that makes one wonder if he promotes this for the advancement of the city or for the monetary compensation for being a spokesman for Bombay Gin. Either way martini mixing could pose a nice and entertaining break to students usual routine of math and sciences.
